The first new Moon in Pisces after the spring equinox marks the beginning of the new year in vedic calendar. However, the Vedic month begins with the Sun’s ingress into every sign and the cycle begins from the Sun’s ingress into Aries. Indian astrologers and cultural traditions follow the Aries ingress as the beginning of the New year and it differs from region to region. In this essay, I will discuss the New year chart, Ingress chart and preceeded by an overview of the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction chart cast to New Delhi, India in the year 2022-23. India has gained supreme prominence in the global stage especially after the escalation of Russia-Ukraine conflict into a major war. India’s independent stand has raised many eyebrows across the world and hence, it will be interesting to look at the prospects of India holding their ground on this rather confused and precarious global platform.
Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction
According to Chakra Dasa, Pisces and Aries will be activated during the year of 2022 where Pisces is activated until the end of June 2022 followed by Aries period for the rest of the year. The year will end during the Aries-Gemini period. Pisces is the 9th house of the JU-SA conjunction chart with the Moon and Mars in the 9th house. Mars is the yoga karaka (a planet that rules an angle and a trine) for the Cancer rising charts and Mars is placed in a trine with the ruler of the AC. The conjunction of the 1st and the 9th ruler is a Raja Yoga (configurations between the planets ruling the trine and an angle) but still the 9th house Mars placement is something the country needs to worry about. There won’t be an open war but the problem is, we are already facing so much of pressure from the global community because of the decision to buy oil from Russia.
An important thing to notice is the focus on Mars during the year. Mars, the ruler of the 10th house in the 9th house is the 12th from the 10th house and this surely poses uncertainty but another important thing is to assess the condition of the king – leader of the nation because Mars is the ruler of the 10th house. Mars is the significator of king in this chart while the Sun is the natural significator of the king. For the king to be making poor decisions or to derail the nation, the planet ruling the king should be badly placed or badly configured. In this chart, we see that Mars is placed in conjunction with the ruler of the rising sign and is forming a sextile with Jupiter (fallen) and Saturn (domicile) – so there is no hard aspect here. Moreover, we also see that Mars trines Venus (in the 5th house of Scorpio), and Mars also receives Venus. Venus is the ruler of the 4th and the 11th house - Badhaka (a planet that could cause hurdles or obstruction). Venus is placed with Ketu which is an affliction but Venus won’t be directly activated anyway at this point. As it is, Venus is a natural benefic. The point is, there is no hard aspect that Mars has with any of the malefics which means, the king is certainly of the right mind and will lead the nation on the right path. There will be religious tensions at various times throughout this year. Having said, this is not a new problem for Indian governments to deal with and hence, this will be sorted out anyway precisely because the king is well placed (Mars). The Sun is the natural significator of the King and the Sun is placed in the 6th house with Mercury, another Bhadaka (a planet that could cause hurdles or obstruction). On the one hand, this indicates struggles or hurdles that will be posed to the governments and on the other hand, the Sun’s affliction is in the 6th house and not in an angle or trine. Obviously, this will bring about an impact in the economy of the nation but we don’t need to really look at the astrological placements to understand the economic situations because of the on-going war and economic sanctions which are wreaking havoc across the world.
The New Moon in Pisces
With the new Moon in Pisces marking the new year in the Vedic calendar, I might be very useful, to understand the course of actions and the condition of the nation during the next on year period. Gemini was rising during the New Moon perfected and Mercury is placed in the 10th house of Pisces. Pisces is detriment for Mercury but it gains accidental dignity by being in the 10th house which is the most powerful angle. Mercury is also reasonably conjunct the MC and it bring the Mercury matters into prominence. Looking at the kind’s condition in this chart: Mercury is not badly configured with the malefics Saturn and Mars. Further, Mercury is in a combust state and is in tight conjunction with the natural significator of the king, The Sun. The Sun in the 10th house gains directional strength and it is the most powerful in the 10th house apart from its placement in Leo and Aries. Moreover, the Sun is also placed in the bounds of Mercury which further solidifies the significance of Mercury during this year. The Moon, the ruler of the 2nd house of Cancer is placed in the 10th house and it indicates the importance that the nation gives to its economy during this year. Mercury indicates commerce and trade which is major catalyst to any nation that looks to grow its economy by opening up its markets (Mercury). The 10th ruler Jupiter is the dispositor of the Sun, Mercury and the Moon and Jupiter is placed in the 9th house which indicates foreign dealings and diplomatic issues. The 7th ruler Jupiter in the 9th house indicates that the year is going to bring about a lot of focus to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With Venus (the natural significator of liasoning and handling diplomacy), in the bounds of Mercury, we can conclude that there will be strong focus on peaceful conclusions.
However, there is a hindrance to peaceful conclusions in the form of the 8th house of Capricorn hosting Saturn and Rahu. Saturn as the 9th ruler is the yoga karaka but it also rules the 8th house and it is placed in the 8th house. The 8th house is the house of oil, petroleum, metallurgy, mining, etc. and Mars is placed in the 8th house of Capricorn where basically Mars wins the planetary war because the planet of exaltation is obviously more powerful and the domicile ruler Saturn is making Mars more powerful because of the reception. However, Mars is the ruler of the 6th and the 11th house. We already are seeing that India antagonising some countries with their oil deals which is the 6th house matter. On the other hand, we see that India is gaining by doing business with Russia which is the 11th house matter. We see a clear theme unfolding with the 6th house (enemies), 8th house (oil) and the 11th house (gains). On the contrary, the price of the oil would not drop during this year by any means.
On interesting thing to notice in this chart is that, leaving the 8th house and Nodes, the planets in the 9th and the 10th houses are bereft of reception and all those planets would have to basically function on their own and that would be expressing the rulership-based significations and natural significations without the support of the ruler of the sign.
Aries Ingress 2022 – Mesha Sankaranti
Taurus was rising as the Sun made its ingress into Aries and the Sun is in the 12th house of Aries along with Mercury and Rahu. This surely shows challenges and uncertainties that the government has to face during this period. With the 2nd and 5th ruler Mercury is placed in the 12th house with Rahu, we can expect unforeseen economic circumstances that will cripple the government and pose various challenges. However, the conjunction of the 4th and the 5th lord (conjunction of a planet ruling an angle and a trine) is a potential conjunction that could mean a positive end despite challenges. Rahu’s presence in the 12th house shows unexpected problems and hurdles that will demand immediate attention of the government; the Sun’s placement in the 12th house only solidifies this outcome.
The ruler of the 1st house, Venus is placed in the 10th house. The 10th house is the king or the government. Venus doesn’t have dignity in Aquarius and moreover, it is conjunct Mars (Badhaka) which rules the 7th and the 12th houses. Not only is Mars conjunct the AC ruler but also aspects the first house.
Kalyanavarma in his Saravali says:
If Mars lends his aspect to the ascendant, one will be fond of valorous acts and battles, irascible, will have severed relationship and be righteous.
This could also signify violence against women or women related issues, prominence of the entertainment industry, significance of military, disputes with other countries, solid position in foreign policies etc. Indian foreign policy will continue to be unassailable and invincible because of Saturn’s dignified position in the 9th house foreign policies and diplomacy. With Mars in the 10th house, it is unlikely that they will change their position.
The 8th and the 11th ruler Jupiter is placed in the 11th house of Pisces, and hence despite Mercury’s placement in the 12th house, India will manage to have gains. Given the current situation, Indian imports are going to increase anyway which is an opportunity for the betterment of fiscal balance towards the end of the year. The 8th house is also oil/petroleum and the ruler of the 8th house is strongly placed in the 11th house and this shows that India’s oil business will continue to grow during this year.
The overall nature of the year is almost similar in both the Pisces New Moon chart and the Aries ingress chart. This also falls in line with the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction chart.
Peace!
